The carp up here in northern Indiana start biting around mid-April. I dont know where your located. And usually before spawn they really start biting during spawn I have caught them but not like before or after spawn. Good Luck.

I've always thought the best carp action happens during the first bluegill/crappie spawn.

If you can find the shallow water coves and see the bluegills sitting on nests... well, if theres carp in the same waters they won't be far away from those bluegill beds gorging themselves on bluegill eggs.

Not only have I found that the carp start feeding heavily during the bluegill spawn but they are also concentrated in large schools in shallow water making them easier to find.

The last two weeks of April and the first two weeks of May have always been my favorite time to hunt for the seriously large and aggressive carp.

Hope that helps!
