Its 5:30 am on Saturday. I have the truck loaded. I am about to leave for sylvan lake in hopes of catching a 20 lb fish in the
next couple days. I should let everyone know that i called the lady on the Sylvan Lake Info and the camping is closed for the
year. They reopen in the April or May depending on the weather. Despite that i am going up there for the next couple days and can't seem to find a single campground that is still open. I can't afford a hotel so i may end up sleeping in the truck. I figure a neck ache is worth it if i catch some fish. Hopefully the local law inforcment is off there game and i can find a somewhat secluded area on the lake to set up my tent and sleep there for the night. It is supposed to get down the 36 degrees.... Oh well.. I am going to go to Sylvan and fish come XXXXXX, cold weather, or high water. Wish me luck. If anyone reading this happens to know where i could camp saturday night by sylvan lake. Call me at (765)3662646. My toes and fingers appreciate the info... I will post a report when i return monday... Dan The Man

Dan just wondered how ya did. Wish I wouldve saw your earlier post sooner. I called my buddy and asked him why they said it was closed for the season & he didnt know. I told him all you wanted to do was fish & pitch a tent.. I know that the porta potties are gone but I didnt think that was that big a deal. That stretch has always produced some fine carp. All my buddies that I tell about you guys & your carp fishing set-ups are just dying to check em out in action. And they all just laugh when I tell em that most think a 20lb carp is big. Im not sure if ya found the public launch or not but you couldve crashed in your car there and they have porta potties and so does the area below the dam. If I can be of any assistance let me know.

Well i got to the dam at about 9 am. I had about thirty mile per hour winds. I foolishly decided to try and set up my bivy. One piece blew towards the lake. I ran after it and the rest of it blew towards the lake so i grabbed the first one and then
ran up the bank after the second piece. i slipped on a rock and fell straight in the lake. I spent the next few hours at the coin laundry up the street from the dam. I finally got my lines in the water about two oclock in a spot that was by the boat ramp. there is a small sidewalk trail along the lake there that is nice to fish from. however i did not even get a bite after chumming lots of corn and method balls. Then about 7 oclock i decided to walk to my truck and get my heater. Along the way i was stopped by the Rome City Town Marshall. This is when the night got interesting. I told me that i matched the description of someone they were looking for. I believe this was a lie but who knows. He proceeded to push me up against his car and frisk me. He was surpisingly gentle. I was finally let go after about 30 mins of explaining that i was in town to fish for carp and i did not know anything about the recent burglaries in the area. I fished til about 1 am and had one run and caught no fish. I would have stayed in my truck but the i was afraid that the marshal would come back and mess with me again. So i went back home and decided i am going to wait til the spring and try the whole trip over again from the start. That marshal is a ******* and i hope that none of my fellow carpers have any problems like that when they go to Rome City, IN. I appreciate your info and hope that i can go back to sylvan lake in the spring to that campground. Dan The Man

Dang Dan so sorry to hear about your first experience not being a good one. We have a few reserve cops that are assholes. But the real ones arent that way at all. I would bet your right that he wasnt looking for anyone. He just wanted to give you a hard time. I guess it couldve been worse. "Hey boy you sure gotta pretty mouth" (Banjos playin in the background) LMAO......... The local law does keep an eye out for people not from the area. Next time your coming up this way let me know!! I can set ya up at the campground whenever ya want. Youd of had soooo much more fun there. I talked with my buddy who is one of the owners and he said he didnt understand what her deal was. I figure if they want 15 per night to camp with a porta pottie then I figured theyd just charge like 10 per night to camp and let ya fend for yourself. Im sure we wouldve figured something out if I wouldve known this before ya came. Maybe next time...... Its almost shotgun season so personally I dont know that I'd want to be down there now anyways.
